Description
The Murano and Burano boat tour is the shorter way to see the lagoon, a half-day excursion on a comfortable panoramic boat that leaves from the area around St. Mark's. After about 30 minutes you land on Murano, where a glass factory welcomes you to a demonstration by a glass master. The factory's shop is open if you want a craft souvenir.
Burano is next, and you spend just over an hour there. The fishermen's houses are painted in bright colours, and the story goes that this helped them find their way home from the sea. The island is known worldwide for its rare lace, and near the mooring dock in the centre you can watch the lace makers, or simply relax and buy the island's typical biscuits, the bussolai.
Then you board again for the quiet run back across the lagoon to Venice.
- Motorboat from and to Venice
- Visit to a glass factory on Murano
- Multilingual assistance and explanations on board
Be aware that the islands are not guided on foot: an assistant gives tips and information on the speaker during the crossings. A short walk is needed between the meeting point and the boarding point, the order of the islands may change, and dogs on a leash with a muzzle are welcome. The tour lasts about four to four and a half hours.
