Description
The glass bead making workshop in Murano is held in a working studio on the island, where two glass artists produce mainly jewellery and small sculptures. You begin with a short introduction to Murano glass and to their work, followed by a live lampworking demonstration of the basic techniques.
Then it is your turn. With the blowtorch in front of you and the artists beside you at every step, you make a few small beads in colours of your choice, decorated with coloured spots. The session is accessible and relaxed, meant for people who simply want to try glassmaking.
- Introduction to Murano glass and the studio
- Lampworking demonstration
- Beads made by you, which you take home
- A coffee while the beads cool
The studio is run by Andrea Penzo, who has worked with glass for more than 30 years, and Cristina Fiore, an artist and teacher. The workshop lasts about an hour and the glass and equipment are provided. It is not suitable for children under 14 or for visually impaired people.
