Description
This Venetian Carnival mask workshop comes with a short history lesson, because the experience opens at the Prison's Palace, a few steps from St. Mark's Square. Your guide leads you through its atmospheric halls and tells the stories of the people locked inside, among them the famous Giacomo Casanova, with tales of justice, intrigue and escape.
From there the experience moves to the hands-on part. Led by a local artisan, you pick a mask and decorate it using paints, glitter and other materials, all provided. While you work you hear about the history and symbolism of Venetian masks and the role they play in the city's Carnival.
Some people go for bold colours and others for something refined, and the artisan teaches the traditional techniques as you go.
