Accademia Gallery tickets in Venice open the door to Venice's major collection of paintings by local masters, from the 14th to the 18th century. Booking ahead lets you avoid the lines, so more of your visit goes to the paintings. The names on the walls read like a who's who of Venetian art: Bellini, Giorgione, Carpaccio, Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese and Tiepolo, along with many other masters.
In 1750 the Venetian Senate created a school here for painting, sculpture and architecture, and that school was among the first to take up art restoration as a field of study.
The works belong to the city's own story. Many canvases come from churches, lay confraternities and city offices, and a number of them are all that remains of churches pulled down under Napoleon's rule. Several of the best-known paintings entered the collection through gifts from private collectors.
