Description
A Venetian mask workshop in Venice starts with a choice: more than 40 papier-mâché models are on offer and you pick the one you want to paint. The session lasts an hour and a half and is held in Palazzo Soranzo, on the first noble floor, with a view over Campo San Polo.
An expert mask maker stays beside you step by step, with acrylic paints and finishes included. The models fall into three groups:
- historical and Commedia dell'Arte masks, for a classic Carnival look
- modern masks designed for children
- traditional shapes that follow the centuries-old technique of the Venetian mask makers
At the end of the workshop you can walk into some of the palace's historic halls. Among decorated ceilings and period furnishings, you put on your finished mask and take photos. The mask then goes home with you.
The workshop suits families, groups of friends and solo travellers, whatever their level. It is not suitable for wheelchair users. On arrival you may be asked to fill in a registration form for the Teatro Che Pazzia association, whose membership is part of the experience.
