Description
A Venice food tour with a gondola ride covers two sides of the city in about two hours: the bacari where locals eat, and the canals seen from the water. You walk from stop to stop with a local guide, tasting 10 different cicchetti, small plates that have filled Venice's neighbourhood bars for generations.
The guide explains the ingredients and the traditions behind each tasting and shows how cicchetti became part of everyday life here. Expect seafood, local specialities and classic Venetian pairings, in spots chosen for being favourites of locals and not easy to find alone. The group is small, and there is enough food to stand in for lunch or dinner, so arrive hungry.
Then comes the gondola:
- a shared ride of a full 30 minutes, not a short traghetto crossing
- historic buildings, bridges and quiet waterways, viewed from the water
The walking part goes ahead in any weather, while the gondola depends on conditions. If rain or strong wind rules it out, the rest of the tour continues as planned and a refund for the gondola portion is made automatically. Drinks beyond those in the tour and gratuities are not included, and neither is a private gondola, since the ride is shared.
