Description
The sunset lagoon cruise in Venice leaves from Zattere, in the Dorsoduro district, on a traditional handcrafted wooden boat with a licensed captain. It lasts 90 minutes and starts about two hours before sunset, so you watch the light change as the city slips behind you.
The boat first heads into the southern lagoon, passing San Giorgio Maggiore and Vignole and Sant'Erasmo, the islands nicknamed the orchards of Venice. You also pass the old fortress of Sant'Andrea and the mudflats that give this ecosystem its character.
The moment to wait for is the San Marco waterfront. Seen from the lagoon, St. Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace take on the colours of dusk, pink and orange, and a chilled glass of Prosecco goes with the view.
- Life jackets and safety gear on board, plus insurance
- No food on board and no stops on the islands
It is a quiet option for a romantic evening or for seeing Venice from a different side. Ask the captain if you would like a different route or a dinner stop. It is not recommended for people prone to seasickness.
