Venice is everything that you imagine it to be.

Venice is everything that you imagine it to be. Depending on your ability, we found it best to walk throughout the city, not using the public water transport. Walking offers you so much more in seeing the 'real' Venice, how people live in the deep and dark back streets, great experience as you get lost in the labarinths. We have heard the negative reports of how it is dirty and smelly, but we found absolutely no evidence of this. A genuinly joyful educating and facinating experience. Just be aware of the obvious rip-offs and over-priced restaurants, and you will be fine. Use the Alilaguna airport transport, which is well organised, and relatively cheap and easy to navigate, both at the airport and in Venice.

Taking a water bus down the Grand Canal has to be the highlight as is the view towards the lagoon on the dell’Academia Bridge. We loved exploring the less touristy areas of Venice…we enjoyed strolling down wider streets and being surprised by lovely squares and beautiful views down canals when crossing numerous bridges. St Marks Square and Rialto were obviously great but it was very, very busy even in late March. Last few days it rained which is uncomfortable trying to dodge umbrellas and continually walking in puddles that make sure you return to your apartment with wet shoes and socks. I worry about what will happen to Venice…it’s getting loved to death by tourists. I know we were part of the problem but something needs to be done to save it from tourists.

    We love everything about Venice.

We love everything about Venice. But, Venice (Venice Center) is not advisable to tourists who have mobility issues because everything in the city center is only accessible by walking. Once you get dropped off the port, there are no taxis if one get tired:). But, we were able to navigate slowly and enjoyed our one week vacation.

2nd time visiting Venice but 1st time actually staying in Venice which made all the difference. We were able to get straight onto the streets of Venice in the mornings without having to catch public transport. Lots to do and see in Venice, steeped in history with incredible buildings to visit.

It is a great historic city.

It is a great historic city. Still, it hasn't lost its spirit. I like it off-season when there aren't as many tourists. Major attraction points such as San Marco and its vicinity, Rialto are overcrowded and touristified even during the off-season, which is understandable for a city like Venice. But the city must take precautions for over-tourism and not lose its indigenous populations due to tourism takeover. Street vendors selling low-quality souvenirs in Piazza San Marco were disturbing the integrity of the Piazza. They should be removed.

This was our best hotel stay in Italy. It is a beautiful traditional hotel in the heart of Venice. The room was tasteful, clean and extremely comfy with a lovely bathroom with great shower. The breakfast was excellent and the staff friendly and courteous (thank you Grace). It is located within walking distance to all the sights and just 50m from the Vaporetto (bus Route 1 and couple of stops from the trainstation). It was very quiet at night and we slept like logs. Highly recommended.

The facilities were immaculately clean, the staff was extremely helpful, the location was excellent, and the AC was the best we had in all of Italy! And as a bonus point, we are observant Jews and not only was the hotel just 5 minute walk from the Jewish ghetto, they knew everything about staying at a hotel over the sabbath (physical keys, side entrance door that doesn’t open automatically etc.) which made things that much easier. 5 stars!

Rooms are a good size. A lot larger than many other similar properties in Italy. Bed is comfortable and breakfast was good and well stocked. Even though the breakfast area is small the staff manage it very well. The property is walking distance from the Rialto Water Bus station so this was quite convenient. A lift is also available on the property, something which isn't too common in Venice, especially in the older properties.
